Boys in Brown sign Louis Oppie

FC St. Pauli have completed another signing with the acquisition of Louis Oppie, 23, from newly promoted second division outfit and cup finalists Arminia Bielefeld. The clubs have agreed not to reveal any details of the transfer.

Born in Berlin, Oppie played at youth level for Hertha BSC and Hertha Zehlendorf, among others, before moving to the Hannover 96 academy. He joined Arminia Bielefeld for the 2023/24 campaign and went on to make a total of 71 third division appearances. Last season, he contributed seven goals and 11 assists to Arminia’s successful bid for promotion. He also played eight times in the DFB Cup, scoring two goals and providing one assist on the road to the final against VfB Stuttgart.

Reaction to the deal

Director of sport Andreas Bornemann: “Louis was an important part of a successful Armina team last season. His signing gives us a very promising option on our defensive left flank. He’s extremely brave going forward and attack-minded, making him exactly the kind of player we were looking to add to the squad.”

Head coach Alexander Blessin: “In Louis we’re getting a dynamic player who loves to get forward and create openings for his teammates but also carries a threat in front of goal himself. He also has qualities from dead balls. Equally important for our game is the fact that Louis plays with the same level of intensity when he’s defending.”

Louis Oppie: “The talks with the club officials were very convincing and I’m convinced the style of play fits very well with my qualities. I’m now looking forward to getting to know my teammates and the city and to the first sessions on the training ground.”
